In The Works

I have finally figured out how to do something I have been wanting to try for a VERY long time...
Machine quilting - stippling to be exact. So exciting! But my hubby said I should probably finish the other BIG project I am working on before I finish this quilt. Last week I found a real treasure in the online classifieds...

Here's a little sneak peak. It's on a drop cloth and half way primed as I type this up. Can you guess what color I am thinking?
BTW, if anyone reading has done free motion quilting before, my thread keeps on breaking and I am stumped (& frustrated). Sure could use some advice.

  1. Wow, you make some really beautiful quilts. I have 3 quilt tops made, but I haven't gotten the courage to quilt them yet.
I'm gonna guess lime green for your paint color.
    I love your studio!

  2. okay, this is all the expertise I have. When I free motion, I set everything to zero. If you have a computerized one, set stitch length, zero. stitch width, ZERO. If you have pressure on the presser foot, zero. I think I even keep my feed dogs up. I put my tension at 6. Change your needle, reinsert your bobbin and start over. It's usually a tension thing.

I can't wait to see your new find all painted. You are my painting hero. Man, I'm glad you're back.

It will be fun to see what color of paint you decide on...

  4. Hi! Your mom shared your blog address with me and I'm so excited to read up on your projects after seeing the review she did on her blog. I've also wanted to try stipling on quilts, but I sorta thought you needed a "long arm" quilting machine. Maybe I'll try following Des's advice on some scraps. Are you totally making up the pattern or are you trying to make the stippling follow a certain path?
